Disneyland

We made it to Disneyland!! Finally!
The older kids go every year with school fieldtrips. But The two younger kids have never been. We were blessed and given tickets soon after my amputation so we could take all the kids and celebrate when it was all over. So this was a long time to wait to celebrate. Charlotte went nuts! She took in the magic of it all and later in the day as we rode the faster roller coasters we learned she was fearless. It was also great to use my handicap pass to get right on the rides. Ben was able to do many of the rides but was pretty overwhelmed my all the sights and noise. Just on the tram ride to get to the park, he was already hiding his face and pointing back at the car. He warmed up after the carousel and rode his horse 3 times. And the great news is that I lasted 13 hours walking on my leg. I think I am still recovering now, 3 days later.

Jack and me

My hair is growing back pretty quickly. It has actually been fun to see what it will be like. I have had many people tell me that their hair grew back a different color, or curly instead of straight. Well, I took a picture of the back of my hair because it looks pretty curly so far. (I am still to vain to take a picture of me with it this short so I just zoomed in on the back.) My 8 year old daughter likes to rub my hair and says "It feels like Jack's hair."

This is Jack....
Jack is a mini labradoodle.

This is my hair.....

I think Charlotte is right. Jack and I came from the same mold.

LOST: Right Knee

Let me know if anyone sees my right knee. It appears I have lost it under all these socks. I added 3 more ply socks yesterday making a grand total of 25ply. Got to love waiting for your referral to be approved.

Rain and Snail races

We had rain yesterday. Before school, Charlotte and her friend were outside collecting the snails to save for 'snail races' after school. I saw her come in the house to get the empty milk carton. I then heard as they were dividing the snails into two teams. Well, that was the last I heard or even paid attentions too as I was busy getting backpacks and wheelchair loaded into the car. After school as I picked up the kids, Charlotte said, 'Mom, can Bryson come over for us to have a snail race?" Before I could answer she turned to Bryson and said, "Are my snails still safe?" He then unzipps his backpack to pull out this milk jug FULL of snails! I about died laughing. The snails spent the day at school in a milk jug. But then it gets better. He handed off the milky snails and unzipped the front pouch in his backpack to reveal his team of snails. Gross. I made them get out of the car to document this moment. Too funny. And I did warn his mom before she found his team of snails.

Everyone can serve

We participated in a big day of service with the 'Mormon Helping Hands' group in our area. We helped to clean up a large park. While the bigger kids spread mulch and the younger kids assembled packages for those serving in the military, Ben and I walked around and told everyone. "Good job. Keep up the good work." He was so adorable and loved walking around and greeting people. It shows that everyone can give service in whatever way they can.

More socks?

I added 3 more ply socks to my leg today. I am now up to 22 ply. Can you imagine how big my knee is now? I can barely get my pants over it. I should take a picture of it. Well, maybe not. But my referral is in and now I am just waiting. Today I volunteered to proctor at the AP testing for the high school. It was 4 hours of walking up and down the isles and being ready to answer questions. It was a long morning and my leg is a lot sore. But it felt so good to do some service.

Time for a new leg

I checked in with the prosthetisist today and it is already time to get a new leg. My leg is shrinking so quickly. I didn't count the thickness in the socks I put on correctly. I am actually up to 19 ply. Normally when you hit 10 ply then it is time to start considering fitting for a new socket. I'm maxed out! It will be a few more weeks before I get the new one built. Until then, he gave me 9 more ply socks. My knee is getting to be very plump from all the socks.

Happy Star Wars Day!!

Our family is a Star Wars loving family. In honor of Star Wars Day today I would like to say..

"May the 4th be with you!"

Morning duties

My lucky fin is still shrinking. As it shrinks I need to add these special socks to thicken up my leg so it will still fit in the prosthetic. As of last week, I am up to my maximum socks. Some of them are 3x the thickness as the other ones. If I added up the thickness then I am up to 12 socks. That is alot of shrinkage! This morning I decided to lay out all my equipment to see my routine when I put my leg on each morning. (And everytime I take it off and put it back on again.)
The gray sock goes on first. It is like wetsuit material. It is the base before the leg. And it gets super hot and sweaty.
